Introduction to article

Jeff obscurity is back at it again with another banger of a article, and similar to what I did last year.

I want to put out some more informational articles for all my rank-play subscribers out there, especially those who are wanting to reach the higher ranks with those sitting in ranks such as Diamond Crimson and Iridescent. Today I'm going to be going over how to increase your Sr. and Modern Warfare 3 ranked play every single game and how using these tips can help you rank up even faster than you currently are, so sit back and take notes because you're going to want to remember all these tips.

And before we get started in the background, I have a nice little gameplay of one of my early-ranked play games when I played in gold with some buddies of mine. There is nothing too crazy in the gameplay, but overall, it should be entertaining to watch. Let's actually get right into the article.

Now, how can you gain a ton of Sr each game? In short, the answer you're probably looking for is to simply play great—not good, but great. You need to consistently do extremely well in each of your games so that the SR system sees that you deserve to get a much higher rank, but there's a massive secret advantage that every new ranked player should know about: if you start strong and continue to be strong, your SR game will decrease minimally over time.

But why am I telling you that it'll decrease naturally, unfortunately? As you go up in ranks, Sr gain will start off as a positive 190, Sr gain will turn into a positive 150 or 120, and so on and so forth. Everyone begins their grind at zero Sr and bronze Sr, and obviously, as you win games, you're going to gain Sr, and as you lose games, you're going to lose Sr.

The amount of Sr that you gain and lose is determined simply through your in-game performance, meaning both individual and team performance. The SR system in Modern Warfare 2 is identical to the SR system in Modern Warfare 3. Both performances are very easy to understand. Individual means just you, how well you perform each game, and how often you're able to hold the top of a scoreboard.

Team performance is how well you play with your team and how often you guys are able to rotate on and off of hard points, capture control points, and secure winds in Search and Destroy, but I'm sure we all knew that, and you're probably asking, but in obscurity. I do good every game and play really well with my teammates, yet I'm only gaining 40 to 60 Sr a game.

Well, the answer to that is HPR, or hidden performance range. To make it simple, HPR is basically your hidden rank that the game's never going to show you; it's how your SR's calculated at the end of every game. A better way of understanding this is basically the rank where the game thinks you belong, so let's say you're in Crimson 1, but the game believes you should really be in Platinum or Diamond, then it's going to try to put you at a lower SR game for the sake of testing you, just like I mentioned before.

You just need to prove to the game that you're deserving of your Crimson rank by outshining all the players in your current rank. AKA Crimson, and iridescent players, not the Platinum Players that you're getting placed against. If you were to perform badly against these platinum players, then yes, your senior and your HPR are just going to keep dropping.

But I'm going to go more into this later in the article. One major tip I do want to provide you all with is: don't play with players who have a much higher skill level than you. I know it sounds easy if you're stuck in a rank and you desperately want to get out of it, but you need to realize that the HPR is trying to test you, and you need to perform.

Let me say this again, and if you haven't taken any notes, then you may want to jot this one down. You need to perform great in every game. I'm talking about 20 games in a row. Now let's throw a hypothetical and say that you aren't able to perform because your godlike teammates are taking all of the glory.

I'm sure it goes without saying that this is an absolute negative in your HPR. By playing with higher-skilled players consistently, the game becomes aware of this pattern and drops your MMR gains, so how can you counter this? Try to find a group of individuals sitting around your same rank and progressively try to get along with them in unison.

Basically, just try to get better with them over time. Now, my next point that I'm going to address in this article is how playing against higher-ranked players is actually a very good thing. You don't want to constantly see yourself playing against a silver team if you're in silver. Right there is a clear indication of where your HPR sees you.

You need to constantly perform for the sake of playing and being matched against better players. If you can perform well against them, then you will obviously gain a bit of boost in your Sr, and, naturally, your HPR goes up. Just as your HPR can go up by a t through a win, it can also do the reverse and go down by a t through a loss.

However, there's something that you guys need to know. You need to understand that losing games can actually still get your HPR up. But it's not that simple. Yeah, you need to perform, but if you lose, let's say, five games, and you end up doing great in all five of them, and then you win your next game, you're going to notice that right after the win, you're instantly placed against higher ranks.

Also read:

That's the game's way of telling you, Hey, I need you to prove to me again that one win can recover almost all of the HPR losses that you had from those five losses. And finally, the last tip I'm going to provide you all with is that you need to go on winning streaks. I'm sure you've noticed that when you're on a three-plus win streak, you tend to gain more Sr if you weren't on one at all.

The longer the win streak, the better the SR game will be, and this is obviously going to tie with everything I've mentioned. The game sees that you're clearly winning multiple matches, so it's going to naturally try to provide you with an Sr boost. You guys need to understand that this ranking system is meant to be grinded out; it's not supposed to be easy, so the harder you grind, the better the results will be long-term.
