Extinction sequel was in development but cancelled
So jumping right back, it seems like Infinity Ward at least their co-op team got shafted twice because, first of all, according to Leer Ross and Brian Briggs, they were actually planning to do a sequel to Extinction, and of course that game ended on a cliffhanger, and this sequel sounded insane.
According to Leer Ross, even a demo was working for it; apparently, it was going to be some kind of open-world experience where it was going to be kind of Tower Defense where you would be extracting and defending hives. However when Infinity Ward were developing infinite Warfare they were told they couldn't have Extinction in that game because they felt like they were taking a big risk with taking Call of Duty to space which they were and it resulted in the game performing very poorly unfortunately, and the trailer receiving a lot of dislikes, but they didn't want to take a further risk by having aliens or I guess cryptids in the game as well which they're not even aliens considering that in the law they were actually on Earth prior to the humans getting there but nevertheless they're kind of like alien looking creatures I guess if we want to stereotype, them and instead that's why they started working on infinite Warfare zombies now according to leer and Brian brigh zombies in spaceand was even kind of originally concepted as a mockery on them taking Call of Duty to space because of course it's a set in a theme pack that's based around space and themed around space although it doesn't actually have any advanced movement or any space elements, and I think it would have actually been cool to see a physical Space Zombies map in infinite Warfare Zombies I guess we got it with moon and technically changa.
For Treyx zombies, but nevertheless.
Lee ross left infinity ward because zombies was cancelled
I really would have liked to see them do that , but regardless, it does SU that they were shafted twice; they were told they couldn't do extin, then they were told they couldn't do zombies again, and then they ended up doing Spec Ops, and that wasn't successful at all, so now they've reverted back to zombies in Modern Warfare 3 zombies, but they're not even developing it treak are and apparently because Lee Ross couldn't continue his zombie storyline.
It was actually the reason he left Infinity Ward and went to treak because he was actually working on the zombies elements in blackout, in Black Ops 4 and then he left treak and Activision entirely after that game we're not exactly sure why but most likely it was probably due to you know these issues with higher ups apparently ler Ross was really pressuring with higher ups and having lots of debates with them he really was pushing for a sequel to infinite Warfare zombies and he just couldn't achieve that they didn't Grant him permission, which was why he left it does actually seem like Lee Ross was planning a story for a sequel to infinite Warfare zombies and we don't know exactly what that was and in fact zombies was somewhat in development for Modern Warfare 2019, but it was cut from the game probably because they wanted to stick to realism it seems like in the spec ops mode there was going to be specific missions which were actually going to have zombies on where it was going to be PVP V zombies.
The cancelled modern warfare 2019 zombies mode precursor to mw3 zombies
Which I guess is probably the original groundwork for what Modern Warfare 3 zombies has begun and DMZ although Modern Warfare 3 zombies doesn't have PVP, but I'm sure it was probably tested in development but they opted out and even in the files of the game there's a giant boss that's found in the files of Modern Warfare 2019, and they even had a concept image now apparently this concept image was never official it's not like they were told by higher up at Infinity War to make this because it's something they're planning it's just a what a developer created for fun in their spare time and interestingly enough this is actually a very similar model to the zombies that are now in the infected version for Halloween, in The Haunting event for Modern Warfare 2 so it's crazy to think they've basically gone back looked at this old concept thought it was really cool and basically reused it for Modern Warfare 2 even though it was never originally created as a model they just based it off of that original concept.
So yeah, I guess zombies were in development somewhat for Modern Warfare 2019. I think probably the spec-up side of things was done with regards to a completely different story to Infinite Warfare Zombies; it probably wasn't connected at all, and I really think this was probably the original inspiration for what ended up being Modern Warfare 3 zombies.
You have to admire lee ross, regardless of your opinions on iw zombies
And regardless of what you think of infinite warfare zombies, like I said, it has its pros and cons.
You have to admire Leer Ross's passion; he puts so much effort into it that I believe he was even really sick during the development.
Iw zombies & ww2 zombies obviously weren't going to be bigger than treyarch straight away, they should've tried again learning from those experiences
I would like to see the other studios carry on attempting the zombies just so that track is not constantly burdened and has to be worked on in other modes. They can focus on their own games and their own zombie experiences, making sure they are as jam-packed as possible because there's no doubt that Vanguard zombies probably took development resources away from Cold War zombies, and that's not good now.
